Decades of ethnic wars between Hutus and Tutsis in Burundi as well as Rwanda and the whole Great lakes region of Central Africa has left millions, sick, malnourished, homeless and without hope. The regional death toll over the last decade nears 5 million. Through the compassionate and courageous work of our partner and peace-making organization in Burundi (Youth in Reconstruction of the World in Destruction), you can join our team in making a difference to these people who have been left behind and largely forgotten by the developed world. Our mission understands that peace is not possible among those without a place to live. You make peace when you help make a home.

Send a child to school
$65 pays for one child's school uniforms and materials needed to attend school for a year.
Many children in Burundi and throughout Africa fo not have the financial means to attend school, which is about $65 in Burundi for the required school uniform, notebooks and pens. In fact, 50% of displaced persons in Burundi and neighboring countries cannot attend school due to poverty, leading often to prostitution for girls, crime and vulnerability to militarization for boys. Your gift will start a child in their education and a future of hope.

Computers in school
$110 provides a recycled computer to a school, and helps save the environment.
Bare walls, wooden benches in rows, no electricity, a simple blackboard and chalk and 40-50 students to a class are classroom conditions we in the developed world find appalling, but are routine throughout Burundi and Africa. And since the Belgians left in the 1960's and the economic situation has deteriorated due to the wars, few classrooms even have texts. YNW works to rebalance these gross inequities and shrink the knowledge divide by providing computers and local knowledge/library networks for schools.

Pen Pal for an African student
$20/year provides hope and connection for an African student to email an American or European friend.
The digital divide is even bigger than the education gap in Africa compared to the rest of the world, and Burundi is near the bottom of African countries in technology. Virtually none of the schools I visited have computers, and the only connection is via a few internet cafes in Bujumbura, the capital city of Burundi. Providing for internet time enable students to learn valuable skills, technology skills, learn about the world outside Africa and have a connection to an American student in our AfricaAmericaExchange which nurtures hope and friendship.

Help YNW reach more youth
$20, $50, $100 or donations of any size to Youth for a New World allow us to reach and connect more young people from around the world to contribute to the world we want.
Our programs open students eyes to the world, build life-changing relationships across cultures and nurture future leaders with a heart to serve humanity.
Won't you join us in this important mission with a gifts. Our YNW Friends may make a one time donation or a monthly contribution. We thank you deeply for your kindness and participation in making the world we want.
